Who am I ?

One of the most fundamental questions that we ask ourselves is “Who am I” And there are many different answers to this question. I suppose that we try to answer this question in many different ways. We may look to others to answer it for us. Our job or role we play in society may help us to answer it. Our friends and family also may help us by what they tell us and how they act around us. But at the end of it all we may still be asking the question that Jesus asks his disciples in today’s Gospel “Who do people say I am?” And for most of the time we are unable to answer it successfully.

There are in life so many different things that define us that we need sometimes to be striped back to discover who we really are and what really matters. It is not a simple answer and in many respects it takes a life time to discover the real you.

Rather than getting more complicated than I am already getting I would like to reflect on one aspect of who we are that affects us all. One thing that we can all say that we are is Christian. I wonder though how many people would be able to say when they ask the question “Who do people say I am?” would be able to say that we are Christian.

When we look the reading from St James we see that he argues that faith and good works goes hand in hand together we must always have both. Our faith in Jesus is shown in action. People ought to know who we are by the good works we show but also that we do this with faith in Christ Jesus. They ought be able to point at us and say that we are Christian. In the psalm it states that to live in this world is always to walk in the presence of the Lord.

Notice if you will that I use ought. The trouble is that we do not do this. Would people tell that we are Christians in the work place and in the world? Being a Christian today is a hard job, through the many pressures of the world and society we need to be more evident than we have ever been. Do we show that we are walking always in the presence of the Lord? Does our faith show in the good works that we do?  Today is home mission Sunday it is our chance to show others the importance of Jesus in our lives. Our chance to change the “ought” into a “will” So that when the question is asked of us “Who do people say I am?” people can say she/he is a Christian.

i always try to have Jesus in my heart and pretty much all over me, especially when talking to people we may not like! sometimes I slip up but lucky for me Jesus is very forgiving! It's so nice when you do meet someone and you can tell Jesus is shining out, but it's also important to remember that he is there in all people and an act of kidness can sometimes be the key to letting him out! love you Father and your blog xxxx Teresa Bisby

The Other day I had an Conversation with someone about Fashion. I am not sure if many of you know but I used to work in Top shop in Oxford Circus. So I thought I woulds share with you some of the trend that might look good for the Summer of 2012.  First of all I am really pleased to say that there seems to be a little colour back into the high street this season. This must be because of the bad weather that people want to wear bold and primary colours. Although I am not sure about the hat in the lower picture. Am I old fashioned enough to say that hats and woolen hats should be winter wear and not summer wear. Fresh and clean colours are in this year.   Good but loose the hat. The black and grey days are over and we can see that these are both stylish from the ladies but also a Casual look from the lads. More than many Sparrows

A number of years ago I worked in Oxford Street in Top shop. I was working in the exchange and refund department. I was suprized by the amount of people that used fashion to hide who they really were. The one thing that they would say quite a lot was that they shopped and brought clothes to make them selves feel better. Now this is not a homily against retail therapy or against fashion shops but I have to say I met a lot of people that used this and other things to get over the pain that they did not either like themselves and therefore feel love of another person.  It is true to say that there are many times in our lives where we are afraid to be our true authentic selves. We hide behind the masks that we portray. We are one thing to one person and another to someone else. We try our best and hardest to try and please everyone where we almost become like a camelion. Jesus and Travel plans

Whenever I go away on holiday or just over night I always without fail over pack: I take loads of stuff away with me and half the stuff I don’t actually use or need. In my mind I have the phrase going through my head “Oh I might just need that.” And then when we get back we actually realised that I did not need it at all.  Basically I do not travel light. I would have then great difficulties I think being a disciple. I would not be able to cope with the travel plans that Jesus would have given me. No spare tunic no, no money, no travel insurance.  Jesus tells us that all we need his authority and the gift of ourselves the talents and gifts that we have been given by God. Mark says nothing in this Gospel about what the disciples said in their missionary activity the most important thing here is presence and through that presence they are witnesses to the Gospel.
