I have to say that this weekend I said something different from what I actually prepared but these are the notes from which I drew  my inspiration. 




This weekend we have an opportunity to explore what is the meaning of being called by God. It is also a chance to look at what our response might be in the midst of this call. So I thought that I would reflect with you what this call has been like in my life and where I am today as a priest. I remember my Mum telling me at the age of about 7 I came down from upstairs after a night’s sleep and I told her that I wanted to become a priest. When I she asked me why I explained to her that it was because they only worked on Sunday. My Vocation to the Priesthood came because I was being invited to come and see and for me also to avail myself and say “here I am.” Both must work together but yet sadly many are put off either by no invitation because of negativity about the Church that they receive from others or because of the business of the world and their lives they never able to hear God speaking to them and so cannot say “Here I am.”

I wonder if we look back for a moment in our own lives we can think of those good men and women who inspired us and invited us by the way they lived or what they told us encouraged us to be introduced to the person of Jesus. And so we should do the same. Many people come into the Church on the RCIA because they have been inspired by others; they have seen Christian witness really at work in their lives and want a bit of it. Some have gone on to be priests, Religious or good parents living out the Christian message in their lives. Where did it start from a simple invitation to “Come and See” exactly like Andrew talking to his brother Peter.

Vocation route is “to be called.” But, as I have discovered in my own life through the doubts about my ministry to leaving it for a while to work in Retail that it takes courage and trust in the Lord to say “ Here I am” and “ Speak Lord your servant is listening.” It may take a long time for us to really realise our role in the world and God’s plan for us. As Newman says we may never really discover it in this life. But, we must be open to that invitation. We must allow ourselves to be open to the will of God and be able to say with trust and hope “ Speak Lord your servant is listening

This is good, but the homily you gave Sunday was the best you've ever given!There were audible gasps a couple of times!I think hearing about your life gives a homily more 'punch' and affects people in a good way. Keep it up!

The Other day I had an Conversation with someone about Fashion. I am not sure if many of you know but I used to work in Top shop in Oxford Circus. So I thought I woulds share with you some of the trend that might look good for the Summer of 2012.  First of all I am really pleased to say that there seems to be a little colour back into the high street this season. This must be because of the bad weather that people want to wear bold and primary colours. Although I am not sure about the hat in the lower picture. Am I old fashioned enough to say that hats and woolen hats should be winter wear and not summer wear. Fresh and clean colours are in this year.   Good but loose the hat. The black and grey days are over and we can see that these are both stylish from the ladies but also a Casual look from the lads. More than many Sparrows

A number of years ago I worked in Oxford Street in Top shop. I was working in the exchange and refund department. I was suprized by the amount of people that used fashion to hide who they really were. The one thing that they would say quite a lot was that they shopped and brought clothes to make them selves feel better. Now this is not a homily against retail therapy or against fashion shops but I have to say I met a lot of people that used this and other things to get over the pain that they did not either like themselves and therefore feel love of another person.  It is true to say that there are many times in our lives where we are afraid to be our true authentic selves. We hide behind the masks that we portray. We are one thing to one person and another to someone else. We try our best and hardest to try and please everyone where we almost become like a camelion. Jesus and Travel plans

Whenever I go away on holiday or just over night I always without fail over pack: I take loads of stuff away with me and half the stuff I don’t actually use or need. In my mind I have the phrase going through my head “Oh I might just need that.” And then when we get back we actually realised that I did not need it at all.  Basically I do not travel light. I would have then great difficulties I think being a disciple. I would not be able to cope with the travel plans that Jesus would have given me. No spare tunic no, no money, no travel insurance.  Jesus tells us that all we need his authority and the gift of ourselves the talents and gifts that we have been given by God. Mark says nothing in this Gospel about what the disciples said in their missionary activity the most important thing here is presence and through that presence they are witnesses to the Gospel.
