Negative thoughts

  A person’s thoughts influence their actions and their behaviour. If we do something that makes us feel good, for example, doing some exercise at the gym, although hard work makes us feel good. Therefore, our behaviour changes and we want to do more of it because it feels good.     The difference comes when the person has negative thoughts all the time. Whatever they try and whatever they do their thoughts are negative. Even though it might be an enjoyable experience there is still negative thoughts that come into the person’s head. For example, you are going to a friend’s birthday party. For many of us when we have been invited to a party, we are excited. We think about the party and who we might see and the friends that we are going to see. Our thoughts are both excited and happy for the event.  We may leave early to get to the party, we ring our friends and are excited to see them.  Now imagine a person with continuous negative automatic thoughts. Forgotten how to cry?

In the 1950’s a new illness was diagnosed called Compassion Fatigue the condition may symptom was characterized by a gradual lessening of compassion. It is a serious problem and people show symptoms of depression. We can have the same with ourselves when it comes to giving in charity. Sometimes to keep people quiet we may just throw money at people without even thinking about it. Sometimes we do it to appease our conscience or it makes us feel good. The beauty of the first part of Holy Week.

  This week we are celebrating Holy Week. We recognise this week the beauty of Jesus love for us. We witness his entry into Jerusalem. This king of peace riding on a donkey comes not to take over the city but to win over peoples hearts. We recognise that here in this man we can see the face of God in human form. I love this day the palms and the excitement of seeing Jesus. This changes as we enter the Upper room. The fact that our God washed and kissed his disciples feet and invites us to do the same. We learn here to love others to be humble and wash others feet just as Jesus did for us. I often think where do I wash others feet. It's in my work in my interactions where I give up my time to help others freely sacrificing my own wants. I love watching the washing of feet seeing all the different people coming forward. The depth of the love of Jesus comes out in Good Friday. We are the disciples we run away, we deny, we are jealous, we sell Jesus out and yet Jesus says I still love ...
