These are some of the most fantastic images that I can remember from 1989 when the Berlin wall came down through a miracle of faith and of people power. This symbol of oppression was no more. It is one of those events like the death of Princess Diana or the Death of Kennedy where wee remember where we were and what we were doing at the the time. 


We still live with oppression. We still live with injustice even in our own communities where one group are disliked or put down or persecuted. We all have out own Berlin wall. We as a people need to speak for freedom for the under privileged the down trodden and the poor. let us fight for justice, fight for freedom and fight for those who are put down. 


  Grant us, Lord God, a vision of your world as your love would have it:

  • a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor;
  • a world where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them;
  • a world where different races and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect;
  • a world where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love.

The Other day I had an Conversation with someone about Fashion. I am not sure if many of you know but I used to work in Top shop in Oxford Circus. So I thought I woulds share with you some of the trend that might look good for the Summer of 2012.  First of all I am really pleased to say that there seems to be a little colour back into the high street this season. This must be because of the bad weather that people want to wear bold and primary colours. Although I am not sure about the hat in the lower picture. Am I old fashioned enough to say that hats and woolen hats should be winter wear and not summer wear. Fresh and clean colours are in this year.   Good but loose the hat. The black and grey days are over and we can see that these are both stylish from the ladies but also a Casual look from the lads. Ascension Day

On Wednesday morning I was sitting in St Peters square. The square was packed and there was not a spare space to have had. We were waiting for Pope Francis and you could feel the expectation as the moment for his arrival got closer. What struck me was the crowds and what impressed as well was the fact that they all came from the four corners of the globe. A lot of these people were young people.  In this carnival like atmosphere I was thinking about two things and they are in a way related to this feast we celebrate today. The first thing that we notice is the gift of  waiting Jesus promises the disciples that there will be the Holy Spirit to help them. He will never abandon his people. The joy of waiting is that it gives us time to truly understand the significance of what we will receive at Pentecost. Waiting can be hard and sometimes painful but the rewards are great. Just think about the joy of a couple who love each other very much meeting after a time apart....

A Year of Service

  This last weekend I was able to look back with friends at the wonderful year I had with the Vincentian Volunteers. Looking back I can see that there are many elements to this year that have remained always with me. These I can now see and after reflection have shaped my life since this most formative year. From this year I went on to train for the priesthood and became a priest. After 16 years I left ministry and now try my best to live my Christian values and life in the world. In a recent upgrade to my CV I realised that my whole adult life has been in some sort of service to others and usually to the most vulnerable and those on the fringes of society. From working in Top Shop to ministry to the Hospital to the work I now do in education. This all stems from this year I had with the community and putting Love in action.
